NutraSweet is exploring ways to compete in the sucralose market, currently occupied solely by Tate & Lyle, "if we could ensure proper quality and reliability and avoid patent issues," said NutraSweet CEO Craig Petray. The product, best known by its brand name, Splenda, is in strong demand, and a sweetener specialist at LMC International said new entrants into the business would have trouble matching Tate & Lyle's manufacturing efficiencies and branding strengths.
