In end-of-term reports on 15 subjects in the national curriculum, the British Qualifications and Curriculum Authority details numerous serious shortcomings, among them that large class sizes are marginalizing lab experiments and that geography is caught in a "vicious cycle of decline." Inspectors found most secondary schools are now retesting entering students because of doubts over the reliability of national curriculum tests for 11-year-olds.
