A colleague of South Korea's cloning pioneer said Hwang Woo-suk faked nine of the 11 stem cells he claimed to have cloned into embryos that led to cultivated stem cell lines and also asked scientists to fabricate photographs. Roh Sung-il, who was a co-author of the article published in the journal Science, said he decided to reveal the information after Hwang told him the embryonic stem cells no longer exist. Hwang today defended his research, which he said will be verified within days, but said he will ask Science to withdraw the article.
