Several hotels in the East Bay area of San Francisco are reflagging to higher-end brands. The Wyndham Garden Hotel Pleasanton will become the Sheraton Pleasanton on Dec. 20, while the former Holiday Inn Bay Bridge in Emeryville will become the Hilton Garden Inn San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge on Dec. 11.
The Massachusetts Lodging Association is planning a magazine targeting gay and lesbian travelers. The magazine, called Great Gay Escapes, will highlight destinations in Massachusetts, places to stay and suggested itineraries.
People who seek the services of travel agents are looking for more than just someone to take their order -- they want expertise about destinations, deals and tour operators, Ed Perkins writes. Perkins recommends consumers ask their friends and colleagues for suggestions, look for an agency that is a member of the American Society of Travel Agents, and research the agency's backup methods.
A Harris Interactive survey found that gay and lesbian respondents were twice as likely as heterosexuals to say that their next vacation will be overseas. Gays and lesbians were also more likely to have taken a cruise on a major cruise line, and 10% said they had taken a cruise tailored for gay or lesbian travelers.
Walt Disney World raised ticket prices for its four Central Florida parks beginning Sunday. SeaWorld announced in mid-December it would raise admission prices; Universal Orlando has not announced an increase.
