The Bush administration plans to have an electronic health record for every American by 2014, but a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association shows that the EHR adoption process may take twice as long as anticipated. The study focused on small medical offices -- which have been reluctant to use EHRs so far -- and shows that at the slowest likely rate of EHR adoption, only 86.6% of small office providers will be using EHRs in 2024.
