An experimental new treatment being developed in Cuba shows promise of reversing the damage from foot ulcers that causes many diabetics to face foot or partial leg amputations. The treatment, named Citoprot-P, is based on a protein called human epidermal growth factor and is designed to be injected directly into the foot in order to stimulate scar tissue and heal ulcers that cannot heal themselves.
