Health care providers increasingly disagree not only on how to treat the common problem of ear infections in children but also on how to diagnose it. With recent studies indicating that children can recover from ear infections without antibiotics almost as quickly as those who do get the drugs, many are suggesting that children over the age of 2 should wait one or two days before starting an antibiotic, in an approach called watchful waiting.
