Mercedes-Benz USA has been cleared to sell up to 5,000 vehicles over the next two years that feature Adaptive Brake Lights that flash during emergency stops, technology that auto safety experts hope will reduce accidents. The brake lights flash when the car detects rapid deceleration in an effort to alert drivers of trailing vehicles and reduce rear-end crashes, said a research associate professor at the University of Michigan's Transportation Research Institute.
