The rapid growth of mobile phones has resulted in various efforts by businesses, organizations and even states to legislate how and when people can use the devices. Although some initiatives have struck a chord, the fact remains that mobile phones now are inextricably woven into our social and cultural fabric, making it difficult to impose strict regulations. "This device has changed the way we live for the better -- certainly for emergencies," says Joe Farren, spokesman for the CTIA-The Wireless Association. "We encourage wireless users to respect others' space."
