Danone has sued Glanbia, Yoplait International and Yoplait Marque Internationales claiming trademark infringement. Danone contends that the name Yoplait Essence is too close to Bifidus Essensis, a name invented by Danone for a strain of bacteria used in its Activia yogurt.
Greek scientists have isolated three strains of bacteria from dairy sources that could have probiotic properties applicable in the food industry. The dairy sources include raw cow's milk, feta cheese and brine, cheddar cheese and sour milk.
