Hilton Hotels and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide are bracing for a challenging year in collective bargaining as the Unite Here union has doubled its size since the last contract negotiations. Two-thirds of the industry's labor contracts are due to expire this year, and Unite Here already rallied outside of Sheraton's hotel in downtown Los Angeles and Marriott's Ritz-Carlton in Boston last month. It accused the hotels of paying lower wages to nonunion workers and trying to intimidate them to keep them from organizing.
