While media conglomerates are high on social networks, raising the profile of smaller, niche sites, there are some analysts voicing an opposing view. Nate Elliott of Jupiter Research claims that 53% of social network users sign up and never return. Moreover, there is a downside in marketing to users who return daily, according to Elliott, who notes, "Advertisers don't want their ads shown to a single user a thousand times a month."
