SAB Miller shifted into overdrive upon reading a report in Wednesday's Wall Street Journal that rival brewer Anheuser-Busch is upping the hops quotient in its signature brews, Budweiser and Bud Light. Reportedly, SAB Miller contacted ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Miami, and requested prints ads poking fun at Bud's changing recipe. The ads could break nationally this week.
Pedigree's "Dogs Rule" campaign won best of show and Chik-fil-A was inducted into the Outdoor Advertising Association of America's Hall of Fame at the 64th Obie Awards. Seventeen other Obies were awarded in individual categories, including Blattner Brunner for Zippo's "Summer" campaign, two awards for Crispin Porter + Bogusky and four winners in the international category.
Creative shop R/GA has constructed a virtual video studio to tout the release of the N93, a new integrated mobile phone and digital video system from Nokia. The plan is for amateur filmmakers and professionals to create video content for the site, which will then be shared virally among users.
The five shops in the running for H&R Block's estimated $100 million account this week are each being briefed by the (potential) client. Among the agencies are: Interpublic Group's Deutsch/LA in Marina del Rey, Calif.; Havas' Arnold, Boston; Omnicom Group's DDB, Chicago, and incumbent IPG shops Campbell Mithun, Minneapolis, which handles the bulk of the account, and Mullen, Wenham, Mass., which is doing project work for the accounting company.
