Vitamin C and E supplements do not help reduce the risk for preeclampsia in pregnant women and, among women at high risk for the potentially lethal condition, the supplements could harm women's babies by leading to low birth weight, according to two new studies. A previous small study suggested that the supplements might help prevent preeclampsia, but in light of the new studies, some health care providers say pregnant women should not take supplements beyond multivitamins.
