Google and Yahoo! are maneuvering to stake even larger claims in the $100 billion-plus domestic local-advertising market, much of which goes to telephone directories, outdoor, newspaper and magazine ads as well as TV and radio. To draw advertisers, the Web companies are beefing up their local offerings using targeting techniques and establishing their own Wi-Fi networks, improving their mapping capabilities and extending their services across wireless platforms.
