Through April 7, Winn-Dixie Stores will provide a free EZ Detect test in support of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. The noninvasive test detects bleeding that can indicate colorectal disease, including ulcer, cancer or colitis.
Analysts are questioning Winn-Dixie Stores' ability to fend off competition, like Publix and Wal-Mart Stores, and bring back former customers after the company filed for a reorganization plan to be completed before November. After reorganization, the Jacksonville, Fla.-based chain plans to be left with minimal long-term debt, but some executives think Winn-Dixie has much to do before a sales boost can occur.
Winn-Dixie Stores approved bids to sell eight of the 35 stores it will shed as part of its attempt to emerge from bankruptcy. Bidders for the stores include Sunrise Properties and Publix Super Markets. The chain will hold an auction on May 9 for all 35 stores, and may consider higher bids for the eight stores that have already received interest from buyers.
