As soccer fans worldwide prepare for the June 9 opening of the FIFA World Cup, a battle is shaping up off the field between the world's two largest manufacturers of athletic footwear -- Nike and Adidas. While Adidas currently dominates the soccer market and is an official sponsor of the Cup, Nike is launching a multiplatform advertising campaign designed to get fans to associate the American company with the global sport of soccer.
