The Medicare drug plan's coverage gap, dubbed the "doughnut hole," is beginning to trap tens of thousands of beneficiaries as their drug costs for the year reach the $2,250 mark. Although beneficiaries are confused and angry over losing coverage at that point, federal officials now estimate only 3 million to 3.5 million will fall into the hole this year, about half the predicted number.
