BusinessWeek profiles Direct Revenue, a New York-based advertising company that designs and packages so-called spyware that pumps out pop-up advertising on infected computers. The company is the target of a lawsuit brought by New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer alleging that the company installs unwanted advertising programs on user computers without their consent. The company says the lawsuit is "much ado about nothing," and that its products are "adware" and not "spyware."
