Vermont dairy farms are still struggling in what is usually a very prosperous time of year for them. At least 46 out of 1,200 independent farms have folded this year, a higher than usual amount, farm economists said. "It's what I call the trifecta: It's low milk prices, bad weather and the cost of staying in business," said one dairy farmer who recently folded his business.
