A study of 156 patients with advanced Parkinson's disease found that medication combined with Medtronic's implantable neurostimulator Activa is better than drugs alone in controlling tremors. Patients treated by drugs and the device reported a 25% increase in quality of life, compared with little change in patients receiving only drugs. The study authors say they believe the device could help about a quarter of a million patients in the U.S. alone.
