The Transportation Security Administration now expects to charge fliers $30 to participate in the Registered Traveler program, down from the $100 it originally estimated. That charge is in addition to fees charged by private companies operating the program, which are likely to be $80-$100. The TSA lowered the fee "based on further analysis and public feedback," a spokeswoman says.
The latest Global Positioning System satellite is expected to launch today from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station aboard a Boeing Delta 2 rocket. The satellite, which will serve military and civilian uses, will be operational after a month of tests.
A government report found that a former Air Force procurement official also unfairly favored Lockheed Martin for certain contracts. Darleen A. Druyun was convicted last year for favoring Boeing. A Lockheed spokesman said it believes its contract proposals represented the best value for the Air Force.
