Boeing is continuing with construction on its $1 billion facility to build 777X wings in Everett, Wash. Steel frameworks for walls have been erected on the construction site, and the building is slated to open in 2016.
Boeing completed assembly of its first 787-9 Dreamliner on Saturday. The latest 787 model rolled off the assembly line at Boeing's facility in Everett, Wash. The 787-9 can carry 40 additional passengers when compared with the 787, and can also travel farther.
Wounded Army soldier Jeremy Sawyer, who has been recovering at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, dreamed of seeing his sons in Spanaway, Wash., on his birthday. His wish was granted by Veterans Airlift Command and the help of Richard Newman of Everett, Wash., who is volunteering his time to fly to San Antonio. The retired lieutenant colonel served in Vietnam and Bosnia. "These guys are in worse shape. They need my help and I am glad to offer it," Newman said.
Russian airline Aeroflot will purchase long-range airliners from Airbus and Boeing. Aeroflot will purchase 22 Boeing 787s and 22 Airbus A350 XWBs. Terms of the agreement, which still needs government approval, were not disclosed.
