Even as experts debate whether boys and girls require different teaching styles, at least 33 states so far have created single-sex public schools or classrooms. The U.S. Education Department is expected to soon issue final guidelines that will resolve a conflict between NCLB, which supports single-gender education, and Title IX, which prohibits sex discrimination in federally funded programs.
