The bipartisan commission charged with recommending changes to NCLB early next year took testimony from leading educators, policymakers and academics in the final day of hearings Monday. Commission Chairman Roy Barnes acknowledges that changes are needed to the law, but notes certain fundamental tenets -- such as using testing to assess academic performance and holding schools accountable for the performance of various subgroups of students -- will remain intact.
