Researchers, who injected into mice extracts of the brains of people who died of Alzheimer's disease, say Alzheimer's has some characteristics of prion brain disorders, such as BSE and chronic wasting disease. The study showed for the first time that there can be different strains of Alzheimer's, and it opens up the possibility that a toxin or a tiny viral agent present in the environment might be involved along with a key protein in causing Alzheimer's.
