The new wire mesh tube will allow coronary surgeons to keep arteries clear, ensuring blood supply while preventing blockage and excessive scaring and controlling medication dosages. The current drug-eluting stent keeps 85% of the toxic drug in the coronary vessel for the rest of the patient's life because it is bound in the polymer, but with the wire mesh tube, a much smaller dose of the drug is used and is completely absorbed in a few weeks.
