A new AIDS awareness campaign from the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center declaring "HIV is a gay disease" is proving controversial in and out of the LGBT community.
Some believe the campaign could add further stigma to the disease, especially for women and straight men, but Lorri L. Jean, the center's executive director, said the stark message was needed to combat "a very alarming silence [that] has descended over our community with regard to HIV and AIDS."
