PepsiCo, after announcing last week that it would put alternatively labeled products in some Whole Foods, has started the project with a line of chips and a smoothie-type drink called Fuelosophy. The new drink and Sun Snacks chips, which began testing earlier this year, are part of Pepsi's effort to diversify its brand portfolio to include a growing number of products targeted at health-conscious consumers.
A study has found that consumers are buying more store brands than ever before in supermarkets, drug stores and other outlets. Nearly 70% of buyers think private-label products are as good, if not better, than their national brand counterparts, according to the survey.
Yum! Brands' Pizza Hut brand has become the largest casual chain in China, a country where Yum! sees an opportunity to reach 2,000 locations. Pizza Hut altered its menu to make it more appealing to Chinese customers and has rolled out a delivery unit.
