The Jelly Belly Candy Co. is launching a new advertising campaign asking consumers to submit taste ideas for a new jelly bean. The Jelly Belly Recipe Game, featuring print ads created by Nice of San Francisco and 10-second TV spots, will launch Jan. 22.
FreshDirect, which will deliver 2,000 fully cooked Thanksgiving dinners and 6,000 turkeys this week, brings in $240 million in sales a year, and while not yet profitable, predicts it will have margins of up to 10%. It also plans expansion outside of New York, but is waiting until its Web service is perfected.
Web sites such as ChefsLine.com, chefs.com and cheftalk.com provide amateur cooks access to professional chefs to answer questions from how to cook at high altitude and the best way to prepare a steak.
PepsiCo will acquire Naked Juice Co., which makes a line of 25 vitamin-fortified drinks, from a private equity firm for an estimated $450 million. Pepsi's CEO expects to spend $500 million annually on niche investments such as Naked.
