Consumer electronics companies are working to educate buyers on the basics of HDTVs, teaching them to properly install them and use them, in an effort to increase sales. Nearly a third of new TVs are HD, says the Consumer Electronics Association and 11 million will be purchased in 2006.
AT&T Inc. is integrating its offerings to deliver a more all-encompassing service package that includes IP video, DSL and wireless. Compelling content also is a key component in AT&T's growth strategy.
New car-stereo units allow drivers to play movies from their video iPods on backseat video screens, and sometimes even on parked cars' navigation screens. Clarion, Alpine, Sony and Pioneer have each contributed to the video iPods' capability in vehicles.
Retailers, such as Best Buy, CompUSA and Circuit City, are remodeling their stores to highlight home theater systems as more mass-market consumers buy flat-panel TVs. A Consumer Electronics Association survey found about 50% of consumers surveyed said their next TV purchase would be a flat panel.
