The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency levied a $1.5 million fine against Syngenta Seeds for inadvertently distributing unapproved biotech seed corn between 2002 and 2005. Syngenta, which last year sold about $5 billion worth of biotech seeds, said through a spokeswoman that the two strains of experimental seeds were distributed due to human error. The EPA said the incident poses no risk to human health or the environment.
