ABC will boost its programming online starting Dec. 25 with first-ever streams of "Brothers & Sisters" and "What About Brian," as well as the complete season-to-date segments of "Desperate Housewives," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Ugly Betty."
Edward Derse, director of interactive media for Fox Sports International and director of emerging networks for Fox Sports Interactive Media, has been promoted to VP of interactive media for FSI. He will report to David Sternberg, EVP and general manager of FSI.
CBS has announced several primetime moves, including scheduling midseason sitcom "Rules of Engagement" to debut on Feb. 5 in the 9:30 p.m. Monday slot held by "The New Adventures of Old Christine." The latter show will go on hiatus during the February sweeps, but will return March 12 in the 8:30 p.m. Monday slot.
Philips Electronics is rolling out an anti-piracy tool called MediaHedge that allows participating Web video sites to root out pirated video clips, using an identifying digital mark or "fingerprint." The service will allow sites to identify even small snippets of pirated video.
Turner Broadcasting System will use encoders from Scientific-Atlanta that will allow it to offer five networks in an IPTV-compatible format. The deal covers CNN, CNN Headline News, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies.
