Rolling back the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and similar regulations would hurt the reputation and competitiveness of U.S. markets, according to Charles Niemeier. The member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board said that given the rise of global competition in financial markets, "it would put us in an extremely dangerous position to have lowered our standards in the United States."
