Saying civil unions don't go far enough, Connecticut state Sen. Andrew McDonald, D-Stamford, and state Rep. Michael Lawlor, D-East Haven, both of whom are openly gay, have proposed a bill to provide equal marriage rights to same-sex couples. Republican Gov. Jodi Rell, who signed the law creating civil unions, said she would veto the marriage measure.
