Monsanto Co. says it has regulatory approval from the U.S. and Canada for its new strain of biotech soybean, the first new soybean produced in more than 10 years. The Roundup RReady2Yield is similar to the company's first biotech strain, but the new one is designed to increase yield by as much as 11%.
Thailand warns it intends to issue more patent-overriding licenses for generic versions of drugs while seeking discounts for those drugs. Thailand's health minister says the ministry will enforce generic licenses previously granted for Bristol-Myers Squibb's Plavix and Sanofi-Aventis and Abbott Laboratories' Kaletra only if the country fails to get the two drugs at prices it is prepared to pay.
