Archer Daniels Midland opened a facility in Portland, Ore., to replace one that was closed because the state claimed a portion for transportation. The facility, which employs 13, serves as a terminal for sweeteners including corn syrup, dry sugar, high-fructose corn syrup and liquid sugar.
More soft drinks are marketing themselves as being made with cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup. Cane sugar is more expensive and does not provide nutritional benefits over high-fructose corn syrup, but some say it provides a superior taste.
Jones Soda has hired Cole & Weber United as its first advertising agency for a $10 million campaign to market its brand to the masses. Seattle-based Jones Soda built its brand on word-of-mouth and, unlike regular soda drinks, uses pure cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup in its ingredients.
