A controversial immigration bill in Alabama that would have voided state contracts for businesses that "knowingly" hired illegal immigrants has been amended to be slightly less strict. After working with lawmakers, the Alabama Associated General Contractors helped amend the bill to define "knowingly" as having "clear and convincing evidence" of hiring illegal immigrants, and instead of a voided contract, contractors would face a 3% reduction in the value of the contract.
