The Food Marketing Institute opposes the law that requires mandatory country of origin labeling on seafood and wants it repealed and replaced with an industry-led labeling model. Costs associated with the labels offer "little to no marketing value," said John Motley, FMI's senior vice president of marketing. The push to apply the law to produce, meat and peanuts is unwise, FMI spokesman Bill Greer said.
