A catamaran barge was due to begin lowering a 2,100-ton foundation for what will be the world's largest self-anchored suspension bridge in San Francisco. The section of the new Bay Bridge was delivered by barge from its birthplace in Corpus Christi, Texas, and, following several careful maneuvers, the structure will be lowered onto piles set into holes drilled 100 feet into bedrock and concrete.
