Reps. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., and Ed Markey, D-Mass., have introduced a bill that would allow the FDA to prohibit drug companies from running direct-to-consumer ads for new pharmaceuticals for up to three years. A similar bill in the Senate would allow ad prohibitions for up to two years. Both bills would require the FDA to clear drug ads before they appear in public.
