The FCC's new consumer-privacy rule could hamper the four cable companies in the joint venture with Sprint Nextel to share customer information, but Sprint said there were no plans to share the type of data that would violate the new privacy rule. The FCC rule was written to stop "pretexting," which is an attempt by an impersonator to obtain someone else's phone records, but the new rule doesn't preclude the sharing of customer data with JV partners in all cases.
