Weak handset sales have led to a first-quarter loss for Motorola. The handset maker shipped 45.4 million handsets during the quarter, down from 65.7 million in the prior quarter. A loss of 8 cents a share translates into a loss of $181 million, and this after last year's $686 million profit. Still in competition with Nokia, Motorola will try to boost its profit in the second quarter.
