Pepsi's Fritos and Tostitos marketing will be given to Omnicom Group's Element 79 division, shifted from the company's GSD&M segment. The accounts are worth $40 million. Element 79 already handles Pepsi's Tropicana, Quaker Oats and Gatorade brands.
Major food companies including Sargento Foods, Kraft Foods, Wrigley, Miller Brewing Co. and Tyson Foods are creating products with Latin flavors as varied as chipotle, salt-and-lime and dulce de leche. "There's no tipping point. It's a constant evolution of how we eat, what the supermarket is going to look like," said a representative for a food industry group, who noted that more exotic products such as mole are becoming increasingly popular.
Menu Foods expanded its pet food recall to include some brands produced in Canada after discovering that contaminated wheat gluten had made it to a Canadian plant. The recall was previously limited to food produced in New Jersey and Kansas.
