Menu Foods expanded its pet food recall to include some brands produced in Canada after discovering that contaminated wheat gluten had made it to a Canadian plant. The recall was previously limited to food produced in New Jersey and Kansas.
Major food companies including Sargento Foods, Kraft Foods, Wrigley, Miller Brewing Co. and Tyson Foods are creating products with Latin flavors as varied as chipotle, salt-and-lime and dulce de leche. "There's no tipping point. It's a constant evolution of how we eat, what the supermarket is going to look like," said the Food Marketing Institute's Michael Sansolo, who noted that more exotic products such as mole are becoming increasingly popular.
Andronico's Market, an upscale grocer in San Francisco, plans to launch a $15 million remodeling project for its eight stores in the Bay Area. The retailer has suffered in recent years due to increased competition from Whole Foods and Safeway.
