New legislation in Florida requires that all hotels, and eventually all new buildings in the state, install carbon monoxide detectors near boilers. The measure follows the poisoning of 26 people who stayed at a Key West resort in December 2006.

Miami-Dade County has sent hotel-tax assessments totaling nearly $10 million to major online travel companies including Orbitz, Travelocity and Expedia. The assessments mark the launch of audits of the companies over what the county says are unremitted bed taxes.
The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians is expanding its Spotlight 29 Casino, in Coachella, Calif., to include a 200-room hotel, a spa and a parking garage. The tribe plans for the hotel to be four-star and include a pool/recreation area with a spa and covered cabanas, a convention center and restaurant additions.
