Newsweek's latest list of top U.S. high schools, based on student participation in AP, International Baccalaureate and Cambridge tests, highlights some unlikely successes. Insisting on rigor can be frustrating when students don't seem to respond, said Cathy Cross, an AP chemistry teacher in Maryland, but even the "failures" are doing well in their college courses thanks to the rigor of their advanced high school classes.
