When older, overweight women reduce their calorie intake, no loss of physical function occurs, a study found. The analysis of 23 obese, postmenopausal women who dieted for five months and lost an average of 25 pounds found the women improved their aerobic fitness and the ability to stand, but their walking speed and strength did not change despite muscle loss.

Arcadia Biosciences says it has agreed to adapt its biotech rice strain to grow in China's top rice-growing region to cut down on the need for nitrogen fertilizer. Arcadia's president says the biotech rice, which absorbs nitrogen more efficiently, could lead to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and possibly allow growers eventually to sell "carbon credits" on world trading markets.
Neville Isdell is staking Coca-Cola's future on "sparkling beverages," putting the company's marketing muscle behind traditional Coke brands as well as Coke Zero, the vitamin-enhanced Diet Coke Plus, and Vanilla Coke Zero. Coke's global soda sales grew faster in 2006 than they have in nearly a decade.
