A new study found the prevalence of heart disease was more than three times as high in patients with gallstones, compared with patients who did not have gallstones. Researchers said important risk factors for gallstones are having a body mass index of 30 or higher, a waist circumference of more than 40 inches for men and more than 35 inches for women, high blood pressure, and insulin resistance.
