Building industry organizations and school districts in Oregon are teaming up to open a new trades charter school and bring more skilled workers into jobs. The architecture, construction and engineering school will serve 400 high school juniors and seniors.
Human rights advocate Peter Tatchell says outgoing British Prime Minister Tony Blair has a mixed record on LGBT issues. While praising the removal of anti-gay legislation from British law under Blair's tenure, Tatchell also pointed to the lack of progress on marriage, asylum and other issues.

Scotty Joe Weaver, a gay teenager who was murdered by his roommate, reportedly begged for his life, according to witness testimony. The roommate, Christopher Gaines, has pleaded guilty to the crime and is expected to receive a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Gaines' girlfriend and another friend are also charged with participating in the crime and will stand trial later this year.
The Massachusetts state House and Senate met in a Constitutional Convention but delayed a vote on an amendment that would ban gay marriage. The bill is the subject of intense lobbying by gay rights proponents and Gov. Deval Patrick, who are seeking to derail the amendment. According to the Massachusetts state constitution, if the measure receives 50 out of 200 votes in consecutive legislative sessions, it can then go before the people as a ballot question.
